Funny Displays

Not being home because of work most of the time, has made me aware of the surroundings whenever I’m traveling to and from work. What’s really interesting to see is the eye catching advertisements and displays around me. Here are some photos of displays that I took that you might find it funny. I know I did. Enjoy!

Very original !

For those who are allergic to nuts, Eat At Your Own Risk !!!

Well, I don’t know how to read Chinese characters but judging by reading the Malay words, I seriously don’t wish to imagine what would happened when a guy takes the medicine.

A Funny Incident

I've encountered a funny thing when I was working 2 days back. The incident happened when I needed to withdraw a security ID to access a server which I was working upon.

Normally, passwords of high privilege Security ID will be set by someone who doesn't have anything to do with the System Acceptance Test (SAT) of that particular server for security reasons. This means that the person who create a new password of the Security ID of the server has the freedom to set any password he/she likes. So, while generating an existing password for the server I came across this hilarious password..

I wonder if the person who secured to password is having a crapy day that time. Even though I don't know the guy who did this, I wish I could get to know him if I had the chance.

Current Affairs

It has been a while since I’ve written a post in my blog and you must be wondering if it’s another dance related essay. Ok.. you all can breath now. I’m not going to write about dance. Not on this post, perhaps the next one. I’m taking a short break from dance due to the fact that it’s getting harder and I’m one level up (bronze) and I’m getting bored of Cha Cha in which I have to complete for at least a month and a half.

Alright.. alright… no dance related stuff.. I get it. So, what have I been up to these past few weeks ?? I’ve just bought a car – Perodua Viva and had been practicing my driving around the neighborhood at night after work. To tell you’re the truth, it has been ages since I’ve driven therefore when I first got into the car, I didn’t know what to do. The person supervising my driving, my mom, who had to take high-blood pressure pills before she sat beside me in the car. No lah… I don’t think my driving is that bad.. I just need to get use to driving again.. Anyway, freedom awaits me once I can drive by myself… hehehe.

Let’s see, what else.. owhh... I took few days leave from work and traveled to Penang, my second home and a food paradise! I’ve only spent two and a half days there (arrived on Sunday afternoon and left on Wednesday morning) because I was scheduled to work on Thursday. Managed to buy some food for my always-hungry team mates at work and also a Soda beige shorts in Metrojaya. Cost about RM36 but I love the cutting and it fits me well. Actually, I was hoping to have a meal at one of my fav. place Mama’s Nyonya Food restaurant located at Abu Siti Lane but ran out of time. Maybe I will some other time. After arriving at KL on Wednesday evening, I quickly prepared myself for a farewell gathering for one of my dear colleague at Johnny’s situated at Summit USJ.

Well, I guess that’s about it so far. Thinking of creating a pictorial history of myself in the next post.. Have to hit the sack soon.. got to wake up early for another day at work tomorrow. Pray hard that nothing will go terribly wrong tomorrow. Ops, actually its today, it’s past midnight. G’night !

Competition Time!

Finally, I’ve managed to find some time to sit down here again to create another post in this blog. I’m assuming that you all would like to know how did the dance competition turned out to be. To tell you the truth, it wasn’t what I’ve expected.

First and foremost, Lai Kuan and I didn’t practice much due to work commitments. We’ve only started practicing the day before the competition. That day is also the day we finalize the routine while adding new moves to it from the result of 1 week of research done before. Well you must be thinking that we are carving our own coffin for our funeral. Yes, I thought so too! In fact, I was really sure that we will not win given the preparation that we did. It was almost next to none. After our weekly dance class, our teacher asked us to dance for the class and we did. By the end of the dance, the whole class was so excited. Even more excited than we are. Anyway, our teacher gave us some constructive criticism which I appreciate a lot and it shows that he cares. After that, we practice for about an hour before we went home to get a good rest before the competition the next day.

The next afternoon, I met up with Lai Kuan at the LRT station and we both went to the competition venue together. After registering ourselves, we went through the steps few more times because our practice session the day before was not enough. Feeling nervous, we messed up the steps during the rehearsal. Also during the competition, we were, or at least I am so overwhelmed by the whole environment that I had a mental block and we screwed up the routine again but we managed to recover and dance till the music ends. From that point onwards, we knew that we stand a slim chance of winning although we didn’t know how others fare. The competition ended at 4.30pm.Lai Kuan, few other friends and I went out for a short lunch because both of us didn’t have our lunch yet. Frankly speaking, I don’t even have mood to eat but I ate anyway because I have to. We went back to the venue at 5.45pm and watched line dancing till 7.30pm. Shortly after that, the competition result was announced. Finalist in my division was called to the dance floor for the award giving ceremony. We went anyway with no hopes of getting any medals.

They started with 3rd placing first. Then came to 2nd placing. My former dance teacher, William announced, ‘The second placing goes to…. Dianne Teoh and Moo Lai Kuan!’. Instantly, both of us looked at each other, couldn’t believe that we were silver medalist. I looked back at my teacher and my classmates and they can’t stop smiling… so did Lai Kuan and I…LOL. What a perfect way to end the day. After winning silver after a non stellar performance, I wondered if the gold could have been easily won if we didn’t screw up our routine during the competition. Maybe.. but silver is good enough for starters.

A Disaster Waiting to Happen?

I can’t believe it!!! I really can’t believe it!!! My dear friend, Lai Kuan and I are going to enter our first ever dance competition!!! Seriously, we’ve been taking classes for only about 2 and a half months. It’s a dream come true ! Well, at least for me.

It all happened yesterday after our dance class when Royce informed our class that there is a party on the 29th of April held by the studio at a community hall nearby the dance studio. He further added that who would be interested in joining the rock n roll competition held earlier that day and that is when he got my full attention. No one dared to reply, me included. I was surprised that he even asked because we are all just beginners. But I was definitely interested so I went to see him after he went out of the class along with Lai Kuan and Jennifer to get further information. It seems that for the competition, if Lai Kuan and I join, we will be dancing with each other in an event called the Ladies Event. This event is solely catered for the ladies as there’s not many male dancers compared to the ladies. That means, one of us will need to dance the men’s steps, and that would be me. I don’t mind, it will be fun! Furthermore, we will be competing among the beginners of the dance school, I think. Royce is kind enough to train us for the competition which I appreciate a lot!

I’m so excited and nervous at the same time now as I don’t know how good are my competitors and there’s only 2 weeks left before the competition and we don’t have any concrete routine to practice on. Also, Lai Kuan and I don’t meet that often which make it harder to practice together. Well, I’m trying to pick up steps from all sorts of media so I could use it during the competition. Hope all turns out well and I don’t fall flat on the floor during competition. I’m keeping my fingers cross.

Sam, a-ba, Sam, a-ba !!!

Last Saturday was the first class of beginner 2 Latin ballroom class. As suspected, it was a little harder that beginner 1 where I did Cha Cha, Rock N’ Roll and Waltz. From my previous post, Samba is my first dance. To tell you the truth, this is the first dance that I’m nervous of before the class and maybe during the beginning of the class. I was not sure if I had accidentally picked up bad habits from the CD that I’ve learnt from previously. Also, it has kept me up for few nights thinking about the moves, how I moved and how it’s suppose to be like.

Anyway, the first exercise that Royce had us do was to step front with the left foot, make a quick transfer of weight to the right foot at the side of the left, then step back on the right foot to get familiar with the count and the quick transfer of body weight and at the same time, counting to the beat, 1, a-2, 3, a-4, etc, etc... Next came the hip movements. The hips should sway the most when it comes to the transfer of weight. So instead of bending our knees (bobbing) up and down, the height should remain the same and only from waist below should be moving. Also, feet should be turned out when pointing back. I felt like I’m doing a mix of belly dancing and ballet. Sounds difficult? Yeah.. it definitely is. I was so uncomfortable moving the hips that I look like a total beginner of all beginners! The same goes for the whole class, especially the guys and we all started laughing because of the awkwardness of the movement, at least that’s how we felt at that time. Knowing that the class totally sucked at the basic hip movement, Royce had us do only the bobbing, to get us familiar with the beats, then, progressively taught us from there. I notice that he had a tough time teaching us too. Well, I don’t blame him.. LOL.

Things started to get better during the 2nd half of the class when we were taught the Samba swift and walk. The Swift was cool as I manage to get 80% the hip movement! Samba walk was alright although during practice, I slipped twice at the back foot, that’s suppose to be stationary and is used to pull the front foot back by a few centimeters. That made my friends and Royce laugh. LOL. Well, at least my technique is correct and also I think its time to get a pair of Latin ballroom shoes. I wonder it will be even more slippery to dance in the shoes ?? I have to get one eventually so might as well visit the shoe shop after class. Also, my feet is hurting every time classes ends.

Anyway, by the end of the class, I was moving my hips like no one’s business…LOL. I’m so glad that I could do it although it’s not as good as Royce’s but boleh tahan la for a beginner. I just have to practice a whole lot to do be PRECISE and PERFECT. I left the studio feeling relieved.
